Children’s Charities

When you have money that you’re not using, why not give it to a children’s charity? They need it more than your broke brother does and they will certainly put the money to good use. But before you write out a check, it’s a good idea to take some time to review the charity to ensure it’s legitimate. You will also want to make sure you’re donating to a charity that is doing good things with your money, not just paying the board of directors or using the money to pay off other bills.

Choosing Your Charity

While you might be skeptical of many charities, you need to put your reservations to the side in the beginning. Think about what you want to do for children, as there is a charity for every sort of child condition and living situation. You will want to investigate the charities that are near and dear to your heart, looking for organizations that will help children in the way you want them to be helped. This might include looking for charities that support children in certain areas of the world or that support certain diseases that children face, etc. Spend some time compiling a list of the different charities that are out there before you begin to see if they’re worth your check.

Checking the Charity Out

Once you have the charities before you, it’s time to do some investigating. You need to make sure they have a tax-exempt ID and that they are an actual charity in the eyes of the law. This means you need to make sure you’re looking at their website, talking to the Better Business Bureau, and even calling the charity to see what they are doing with the money you give to them. They should be able to provide you with proof that they are using their money wisely. Ask for their financial reports to see how they are spending their money and whether you agree with their actions. If you do not, then don’t give them any more.

Making Sure Children Get What They Need

Once you have given the money to the children’s charity, you need to make sure they are using it wisely. This might include you checking in on the charity at frequent intervals to see what they are doing with your money. You might also want to look to see if they have pictures of things they have accomplished or if they have new goals because they have accomplished old goals. You could also go out to where the charity is to see if things are being improved by the contributions they have received. Be aggressive in finding out how your money is helping the children. If it’s not helping them, then you need to avoid giving money to them again.

Children’s charities seem so innocence and so helpful. But when you want to make sure your money makes a difference, you will want to make sure you are checking up on your charities.
